How to Clean Your Keyboard

Personal Edition

Whether you work on a computer every day or only use one a couple of times a week, a good cleaning never hurts. Say goodbye to germs and sticky keys by following these steps:

  1. Turn off your computer and unplug the keyboard.
  2. Remove surface dirt using a rag or handheld vacuum. Don’t use a central vacuum, it’s too powerful. You might suck up the keys!
  3. Use a hairdryer or air duster to blow air on the keyboard and dislodge any remaining dust. If possible, hold your keyboard upside down so that the debris falls. You can find air dusters in any computer store. They’re equipped with a long, thin pipe that will channel the air directly between the keys.
  4. Wet a rag with 70% alcohol and clean the keys one by one. This can seem long, but it’s worth it. You will get rid of any dirt or germs on the keyboard’s surface. You can also use disinfecting wipes for this.

Attention: Never spray liquid directly on your keyboard. Getting water or cleaning product between the keys can damage it.

Once you’ve completed these steps, your keyboard will be spick and span! Don’t forget to keep cleaning it regularly to stop germs and dust from accumulating.
